“At Princeton, Bardeen began his serious studies of metals under Professor E.P. Wigner, using new theories of quantum mechanics to help further understanding of semiconductors. He finished his dissertation in 1935 and was offered a junior fellow position at Harvard, where he spent the next three years.” (24).
At Princeton, Bardeen worked on getting a Ph.D in mathematical physics which would prove to be vital in the future.

Following that Bardeen began to work at Bell Labs.
“In 1951, Bardeen left Bell Labs to enjoy the freedom of pursuing his own research at Illinois” (25).
